Mission Statement

 

The mission of the Grace Congregational Church (GCC) Deacon/Deaconess Ministry is to support the ministry of Grace Church by helping to meet the needs of the members of the congregation through providing care, counseling, and support within biblical guidelines. As Disciples of Christ, we take every opportunity to spread the gospel in an effort to win others to Christ.

Responsibilities of Our Mission

​

• Assist individual members and families with temporal and spiritual needs

• Assist individual members and families with transportation to church as necessary

• Visit members who are ill, whether at home or in the hospital

• Ensure members who are sick and shut in receive the Holy Communion

• Assist other ministries within the body of Christ at large in developing community outreach programs

 

Duties of a Deacon/Deaconess

• Assist the Senior Pastor in serving the temporal and spiritual needs of individual members and families both in their homes and away from the church

• Assist in facilitating Worship Services and Bible Study classes as necessary

• Assist in the Holy Communion

• Lead in conducting all water baptisms

• Assist in the collaboration with local agencies to provide care, counseling, rehabilitation resources/services and/or referrals as necessary

• Other duties as assigned

 

What are some Requirements to become a Deacon/Deaconess

​

• Member of Grace Congregational Church for at least two (2) years

• Maintain God-ordained priorities in your life by putting Jesus Christ first, your family (i.e. – spouse, children, etc.) second and the ministry third.

• Devote yourself to prayer and to the ministry of the Word

• Give at least 10% of your income (tithe) toward the mission and vision of Grace Congregational Church.

• Regular attendance to Bible Study and Sabbath Worship Service

• Man or woman of good reputation and wisdom

• Full of the Holy Spirit as evidence by speaking in tongues

• Committed and dedicated

• Be loyal to the vision and staff of Grace Congregational Church and always protect the unity of the church.

• Have a caring heart and desire to help heal those who are hurting and broken.
